An association representing companies that recycle wastewater is holding a contest putting the industry's primary product to use brewing beer.
The WateReuse Association has invited more than 100 Florida homebrewers to take part in a beer tasting contest being held in conjunction with the organization's annual four-day symposium, starting Sept. 11 in Tampa. Each contestant will be given two five-gallon buckets of purified water to turn into beer that will be judged by two dozen taste testers.
The association didn't say what, if any, prizes would be awarded other than bragging rights. The contest is designed to demonstrate that recycled water is safe to drink.
Three companies—Tetra Tech, Xylem and GE—are providing the water. The association has released a short video explaining (in rhyme) the purpose of the contest:
